Lukas Kiran Dean Daniels-Wood was born in Kathmandu, Nepal on December 22, 2003. His legal birth date was 1/16/2004, and we always celebrated both days. The name Lukas means light, and his Nepali name Kiran means ray of light. His second middle name was Dean after his grandfather. From a baby to age 6, he lived in Fresno, CA. In 2010, we moved to Laguna Niguel.
Lukas loved Legos, reading, music of all kinds, and soccer. He was on the Dana Hills High School team. He also played the violin, trumpet, and saxophone in school. In 2020, he began to teach himself the bass guitar. He loved Johnny Cash, and his favorite songs were Ghost Riders in the Sky and Folsom Prison Blues. Pink Martini was a favorite band of his. He also loved Frank Sinatra, Glenn Miller, Bobby Darin, Pitbull, Japanese Anime, and classical music of all genres.
He was a budding chef. He often made fresh breads, especially brioche, and loved to experiment with Asian sauces and stir fry. Other dishes, like his salmon almondine, were amazing. About a year ago he became vegan, at first for health, then later for the animals.
Lukas passed away on January 2, 2021. His memorial will be in Seaside, OR which was one of his favorite places. At about age 8, after his first visit there, he said he was going to retire there, and later, he said he wanted to attend a university in Oregon and work in environmental science. Seaside will be the place we spread his ashes in loving tribute to him. The date is yet to be determined.
"Lukas we miss you everyday, and you will always be in our hearts."
